It was in operation for 65 years as a generator with an output of 2 megawatts. Purified blast furnace top gas was used as the working medium. For 35 years it worked exclusively for the Maxhtten grid. It was shut down at the turn of the year 1988/89. For demonstration purposes, the movements of the gas dynamo can be slowly reproduced by means of an electric motor via the flywheel. In addition, you can hear the original sound of the gas center from a bygone era.

With an electric auxiliary motor, we can still set the machine and flywheel in motion today, but only in slow motion compared to the original operation. It is impressive in any case.
In the summer of 1992, this ingot was the last of its kind to be cast before the Maxhtte's obsolete preliminary stage was decommissioned.

During World War II, Maxhtte was a coveted target for Allied attacks. During air raid alerts, dozens of these cells served as protection for the workers against possible bomb splinters. However, the emergency never occurred in the gas machine center.
The mouth hole is the opening of the blast furnace from which the product exits in liquid form. The process is called tapping. Tapping at the blast furnaces took place approximately every 4 hours.

In this model you can see the original equipment of the gas machine center with a total of 7 gas machines, which were used partly for the generation of electricity and partly for the generation of compressed air, with which the firing of the melting process in the blast furnace was supported.
This brings death - remember it at all times. Don't be tempted to sleep. - Even in the twenties, occupational safety played a major role, as the work was very dangerous.

The elevated position of the control center provided a good overview of the hall. The spatial separation was already necessary because of the infernal noise caused by the machines, so that normal communication was possible.
Today, the control center serves as a meeting room for the association and for showing the extensive historical video material on Maxhtte to groups of visitors.

Since the large hall is not accessible at ground level, we can lift larger items into the hall using a crane and basket.
Originally, the overhead crane had a lifting capacity of 40 tons. Today, we are allowed to move a maximum of 6 tons after TV testing.
